William Douglas Co.

Aaron found William Douglas on YouTube. He was making woodworking content that was genuinely worth watching and Aaron reached out on Instagram with some questions about the craft. William saw that Aaron did software development and mentioned he had two websites that both needed work: his personal portfolio and a coffee shop he was opening.

Both were on WordPress. Both had the same issue. Plugins would go outdated, something on the site would break, and William had no clear path to fixing it. He was spending time he did not have managing something he did not want to manage.

The Navigation

The navigation on this site was something William and Aaron figured out together. He wanted it to feel as intentional as his work, not just a standard header with some links. What they landed on: the menu is always visible on desktop so visitors always know where they are. On mobile it collapses to a hamburger, and when it opens, the page content slides down to make room rather than getting covered. It gives the user a sense of place without breaking the layout.

For a portfolio site built around craftsmanship, small details like that matter.

What the Site Does

The portfolio section showcases William’s completed woodworking projects. There is also a commerce page where he and collaborating artists can list pieces for sale, with a contact form for anyone interested in purchasing. Stripe handles payments and Resend handles order notifications on the backend.

The same Instagram connection that led to this site led to the Case Study Coffee Lounge project. When William mentioned he was opening a coffee shop and needed a website for that too, it became a natural second project. Both sites came out of one conversation.
